Bass Tracking Sessions

Steve and I are picking up THUS III sessions this week tracking bass. We started with a song called 'Eras To Eons' which sounds like A Perfect Circle and The Beatles. Next week we move on to 'Peace On Mars.' If the title reminds of David Bowie, you get it. It isn't unlike late period Bowie, which in my humble opinion is his best work.

Hitting the studio

We've done some preliminary test tracking a new song (the first song on THUS III) and it sounds fantastic so far. Collaborating with talented musicians is really exciting.

With sessions under way, this new narrative of songs will arrive soon. We can only complete it as fast as the process will allow, but rest assured you're in for some surprises.

THUS...the band

...as in not just me anymore. The band is coming together better than I could have imagined in the last several years. I have no business playing with these guys and they certainly bring out my best. So far it's just the bassist - Steve Fassbender (or is tha Bassfender...?) and drummer Pat Conway. Both are top notch. With only the 3 of us it's starting to sound insanely good.

Still the search for 2 singing guitarists is proving to be a 90 degree angle uphill battle. Either way the aim is still to begin performing publicly late autumn. I'm out tonight watching Pat play a set at Waxy O'Connor's in Foxboro MA. Killin it. It amazes me. I don't have the discipline to learn tons of other people's songs anymore. Props to Pat and his band Crunchy Monkey. Be well people. We'll be seeing you soon-----

Successful test run on new songs

THUS played at The Skylight Lounge last night. Really it was only percussionist Pat Conway and myself, but the new songs went over well which was a bigger deal for me than I think I let on. Pretty vindicating to see some audience members grooving on songs I've never played before. What a great lineup too! The night started out strong but never faltered- check out this night:

So today I'm going to do some booking, and work on THUS III...it's getting to the point now where I'm holding the release date until I can create at least a little buzz.
Lastly, one more shout out to my good friend Pat for helping me out last night! He nailed the performances  - especially since he was improving most of it. See you out there...

2015 411

I haven't posted much in the way of news for a while so here's some upcoming stuff.
Now the official site is launched and if you haven't heard the remasters of THUS I & II you can check em out there. You can also listen to the new Unplugged EP exclusively at the site. (thusmusic.com/thus-unplugged) I'm working on making it available. For now feel free to stream. And tell everyone you know.

I've been talking up THUS III for some time now and it's going to be another milestone. Absolutely epic album. I'm toying with the idea of releasing it in 2 parts since it's just shy of 1 1/2 hours long. Or I may release ita song at a time on a weekly basis once it's ready. Unfortunately for that to work it would seem more logical to have many more people interested in THUS in general. In order to do that...

...THUS will be playing live a couple times in the next month for the first time in about 6 or 7 years! I hope to generate a little buzz and maybe gain some listeners. The two guys joining me (my phenominal cousin Daniel Scudieri on guitar & vocals, and Pat Conway on various percussion instruments) are top notch. Worthy of the cause. They both give me a run for my money so this should be fantastic. You can check the dates at thusmusic.com/live

If this all weren't enough, as I've rolled into the final stages of T3 new songs have been coming to me. This is crazy as the T3 sessions already generated enough material for THUS IV...so it seems as though V could already be in the works...?? But let's not get ahead of ourselves here. IV won't likely see the light of day for at least another year. And III isn't even quite finished yet--but let me tell you THUS III rocks. There is a lot of new ground breaking on this record. Different styles, techniques, solid melodies...but a lot of classic stuff like THUS harmonies, drums, riffs, and epic composition. There is absolutely a thread, a theme to III. I'll talk more about that when the release date gets a little closer...

Site back up & Upcoming shows

Hey everyone. In case you were wondering  michaelscudieri.com is back up and running. Sorry for the inconvenience~ Head back there and enjoy some musical goidness~ (Goidness?)

In other, more exciting news, I've assembled a small outfit of amazing musicians to bring THYS back to the stage AND record a live album. There are currently 2 upcoming THUS shows:

- Thursday January 29, 7:00 pm @ The Mediator Stage, Rounds Ave, Providence RI
(NOTE: This night will be recorded and released as the first ever live THUS album. So we'll need some real support so I don't have to dub a fake audience between songs into the final mixes...)

- Friday March 27, 7:30 pm @ Lang's Bowlarama 225 Niantic Ave, Providence RI

These two unique appearances will feature music as reimagined for the THUS Unplugged EP. Crazy harmonies, guitar counterpoint, and awesome percussion - it'll all be there, and so should you. You might even get a preview of THUS III...
See you around~

Holiday Updates...

Thanksgiving is over (well not for me, headed over to my parents for yet ANOTHER turkey dinner, and hopefully some of those sweet rolls mom makes most years) but the holiday season is in full swing and that means THUS releases are approaching. The first album was released around New Years 2007,  and the remasters were let loose 12/12/12, though THUS II saw a definitive rerelease this year. I plan to let the final rerelease of the eponymous debut out next, along with the polished and mastered Unplugged EP. The first album has been done and mastered for several months already but I wanted some distance from it to hear definitively if it's ready for your iPod yet.

With rereleases pending there are probably a couple things on your mind...

When/where can I download the music?

There will soon be a download store at michaelscudieri.com. I'm weighing some options. I'll likely make them available on iTunes at some point for the exposure, but if you buy them from me, there's no middle man, I make a little more money for the music, and I can continue composing it, and you may keep enjoying it. Spanking!

With all these re-releases forthcoming, is THUS III being pushed back?

No. Quite the contrary. I'm generating interest in THUS with rereleases (simultaneously satisfying my not-so-inner perfectionist) True, III is not complete but steady progress is being made. I had really wanted it ready for an end of year release, but as I learned with the last album, the process cannot be rushed. At least I don't take 9 or 10 years like Tool.

You've mentioned THUS IV?? What's the deal?

IV is a reality. It is more than half finished. It is a lot like the 1st album in that the songs are a little shorter than II & III (III has a couple of my longest songs yet) and they are pretty steady rocking tunes. It's not a concept album, it's not gapless, and once it's released, that's it. No rereleases, remixes, remasters, etc. I've learned my lesson. I don't want to spend half my career as an archivist.

So there's a heap of updates. I hope you're surrounded by the people you want to be surrounded by, regardless of the holiday you're celebrating this month.

Be safe and pig out~
